Olgani Naturals' founder, Olga Niemkiewicz, developed her affinity for natural ingredients in her native Poland, where utilizing natural elements was integral to her lifestyle. Upon settling in Cape Town with her husband in the 80s, she quickly became acquainted with and inspired by South Africa's wealth of indigenous natural ingredients.

In 2004, Olga faced a serious case of periodontal disease. Rather than agreeing to the dentist's recommendation for surgical intervention, Olga drew on her knowledge of natural remedies to create herbal brushing salts. Miraculously, just four months later, her dentist was astonished by the improvement. This marked the inception of the brand's vision to offer the world a natural source of healthcare.

Over the ensuing two years, Olga shared her brushing salt remedy with friends, receiving positive feedback and sparking demand through word of mouth. This demand provided the impetus to launch Olgani's debut product in 2006: Oral Health Brushing Salts. The product found its way onto the shelves of select health stores in Cape Town. In 2008, Olgani Naturals was formally established, adopting an integrated health approach that considers the well-being of the entire body, rather than viewing oral health in isolation. The brand's entry into the market featured variants of brushing salts, including Original, Green Tea, and Aloe & Xylitol.

After four years of research and development, Olgani Naturals introduced the South African market to the first toothpaste composed entirely of 100% natural, edible ingredients: the Herbal Refreshing Toothpaste, formulated with the NutrireB - the unique base for all their toothpaste blends. The formula is based on the Ayurvedic principle of Oil Pulling and is a blend of mineral-rich rice flour, sea salt, sesame, and coconut oil. This formula, both gentle and thorough in its cleaning action, proved non-abrasive to precious tooth enamel. It is further abundant in minerals and vitamins and prevents dental plaque deposits, leaving teeth clean and nourishing the gum tissue.

Recognising a gap in the market for glycerin-free mouthwashes, Olgani developed two oral care powder products: Clove & Xylitol Mouth Wash and Sage & Spearmint Mouth Wash. These convenient, easy-to-use mouthwashes serve for quick, on-the-go cleansing of the mouth and teeth, as well as doubling as brushing salts.

In 2016, drawing from the understanding that natural teeth remineralisation occurs through saliva's mineral content, Olgani Naturals pioneered the Mineral Rich Evening toothpaste. The Mineral Rich Evening toothpaste is a blend of organic coconut oil, bentonite clay, calcium carbonate, ionic minerals from cal/meg mineralifeTM with organic essential oils of peppermint and tea tree. This innovative toothpaste enhances the remineralisation process by introducing minerals into saliva. This is the first toothpaste recommended for nighttime use, fostering optimal tooth remineralisation during sleep and introducing an effective, natural approach to oral care.

Following this success, in 2017, Olgani expanded their product line with the Fruity Orange Toothpaste, designed with younger consumers in mind. This fun and citrusy option features beneficial Liquorice extract and trace amounts of Xylitol. The formula acknowledges that a child’s sense of taste is more sensitive and that continuous exposure to sweetness may lead to the avoidance of other tastes, ultimately having negative consequences for overall health. Thus, the Fruity Orange Toothpaste is not only beneficial for its oral care properties but also takes into consideration not to overstimulate certain taste buds.

In addition to the Fruity Orange toothpaste, in April that year, Olgani introduced their Detoxifying Charcoal Toothpaste. Made entirely of natural ingredients, this product quickly became their top seller, promising to cleanse and whiten teeth in a gentle, yet effective way. The commonly known ability of activated charcoal to absorb tannins and toxins makes it an ideal component for natural oral care. Besides its teeth whitening benefits, Charcoal also regulates the pH in the mouth, prevents cavities, bad breath and gum disease.
